Exams are something we come across as students. Most students hate when their
teachers say ‘we have an upcoming assessment’. However, it helps teachers to
understand and identify where you struggle most and guide you on how to improve.
Today I sat down and interviewed two Year 8 students; Cayley and Yi Jia, asking about
their tips and how they face exams.
Cayley:
How do you prepare for upcoming exams?
I study and revise from topics in my textbook and notes I have written down.
Do you have any methods you use for revising? Any study tips?
Make sure you write down notes, it should be neat so that it’s easy to read and
understand. You can play music while studying to give you some motivation.
Do you face exam stress? If so, how do you overcome it?
I don’t get exam stress. However, if I do experience stress, I would try to focus and limit
my distractions so that I can concentrate and finish my revision efficiently.
How did you improve after an exam?
After an exam, I revise more and test myself or ask my friends to help me with
revision.
Yi Jia:
How do you prepare for upcoming exams?
Depending on the subject, I answer questions based on the topic whether it’s from a
chapter of my textbook or questions from the internet. Moreover, I find resources that
my teacher has given me such as a PowerPoint lesson. If I do not understand
something about the question or the resources, I watch the lesson recordings.
Do you have any methods you use for revising? Any study tips?
Don’t rely too much on the textbook, the teacher may add additional information on the
PowerPoint lesson.
How do you handle exam stress? If so, how do you overcome it?
I talk to my mum about my exams and it helps me calm down and focus on my revision.
How did you improve after an exam?
I look back at my exam papers and review the questions I got wrong. I try to understand
and if I don’t understand a concept, I search for the answers.
Do you have any study tips? Feel free to leave a comment!
