A Celebration for Our Mothers

Nethra

Every year, every Mother’s Day, there are around 152 million cards sent to mothers. Without mothers we would not be alive; figuratively and well, literally. This is that day when children can make their mothers feel special; to show love in their own special little ways. I have asked a few of my friends about their thoughts and what they have done for Mother’s Day!

“What is your favourite thing about Mother’s Day?” I really like the idea of Mother’s Day and having the opportunity to dedicate a whole day to my mother and show appreciation to the one that gave birth to me. It's a really special day for everyone to appreciate their mothers and make them feel loved. Our mothers have done everything for their children and even though their effort is not recognised every day, this celebration is where we can make them feel special and important because they deserve it. Mothers play a plethora of different roles in our lives: a friend, a guide, a caregiver and so many other things. For me, she’s the one person I just cannot live without and I cannot imagine my life without her.

“What did you do for Mother’s Day?”

This year, I cooked her breakfast and lunch, taking her place in the kitchen so she can be relaxed and feel special, as this time, I was the one providing for her and not the other way around. My mother and I spent the entire day together! We ordered her favourite food for dinner and watched her favourite show and just spent some very enjoyable quality time with one another. I wasn’t able to get her a gift due to exams so I’ll be buying her something special soon and surprising her with it!

“How was this year’s Mother’s Day special?”

For Mother’s Day this year, my mother was in India for about a month. We were away from each other and missed each other's presence. The time spent apart made this year's Mother's Day even more special as we were able to bond and catch up on what happened during her month away!

“Why do you think Mother’s Day is important?”

Mothers do so many things for their kids. They sacrifice a lot and having a day dedicated to mothers may not be enough of giving back to them, but it’s the chance to showcase the love we have for them. It's a small gesture that signifies a great deal of love children have for their mothers. I’m not sure how easy it would be to display the affection I have for my mother without Mother's Day, so I really love how it gives us the opportunity to acknowledge and show our appreciation for whatever they've done for us.
