新年快乐，it’s 2024
All 50 of my relatives come knocking at my door
From young to old, they all clap and cheer,
As we celebrate the welcoming of a new year.
恭喜发财，红包拿来
These rhymes stick with me until I die
Children running around, asking aunties for ang paos
Neighbours handing gifts as they pass my house
年年有余，don’t forget about the fish!The colourful Yee Sang – my favourite dish!And let’s not forget the prosperity burger,
An all-time favourite for the McDonald’s lovers!
大吉大利，reads the writing on the walls,
Hanging bright lanterns, hoping they don’t fall
Wishes and money spread around like a wildfire,
Hoping that everyone earns what they desire.
“Happy龙龙Way” plays on the radio,
And my cousin plays “Gong Xi Gong Xi” on the piano
BOOM! BANG! The fireworks blast
And they disappear in the sky so fast…
Although our celebrations might differ family to family,
We are still celebrating this Lunar New Year happily.
Let us welcome this Chinese New Year,
With fireworks, prosperity, and loud cheers!
