A Tenbian's day in life and finding fulfillment in daily routines

Ruo Xuan

After experiencing the tedious and monotonous life of being confined to our houses for almost two years, I’m sure everyone is eager to develop their daily routines into something more now that restrictions have been lifted! Unfortunately, many students often struggle to find the perfect balance between work and leisure activities. I recently interviewed Aneisha, a Tenbian in Year 10, about her day in life and how she has found happiness, pride and fulfillment in her daily routines. Therefore, I hope everyone can learn a thing or two from Aneisha as she is an incredibly outstanding student in Tenby!

How has your morning routine changed over recent years?

During the lockdown, my sleep schedule was slightly jumbled and I usually woke up at 2 or 3pm every day. However, now that COVID restrictions have been lifted and we’re all back to physical school, having a chaotic sleep schedule was no longer an option. This was when I decided to start a new chapter in my life to wake up at 5:30am every morning. Needless to say, this decision also forced me to sleep at 9pm every night. Overtime, I've learnt that a sufficient amount of sleep is absolutely crucial to being productive and more focused during the day.

What’s your favorite thing about going to school?

My favorite thing about school is the atmosphere of comfort, support and care that it provides to students. Every day, I would look forward to my lessons and to meeting my friends in school. I believe that these are all amazing experiences that allow me to embark on learning journeys whilst making new friends and understanding the importance of companionship along the way.

How often do you exercise throughout the week?

Nowadays, I go jogging 4 times a week around my neighborhood right after I wake up and freshen up. Jogging allows me to have a short break from technology and this really elevates my mood for the day as it wakes me up and it gives me the opportunity to spend time in nature first thing in the morning.

What do you usually do after school? Are there any hobbies you would like to share?

After school, I eat and shower first before starting my productive activities for the afternoon. These activities may vary depending on when my next test is. To control any anxiety that I may have felt throughout the day, I try my best to journal every day as this also prepares me for sleep. As I have trouble falling asleep sometimes, I try to do yoga and read before bed to keep my mind from racing and fall asleep quickly.

How do you manage your time and avoid procrastination?

Overall, I manage my time by making schedules the day before as this reminds me of the specific things that I would like to accomplish tomorrow. In my opinion, no matter what you do, it’s incredibly important for you to feel in control of things and to have confidence in all the decisions that you make throughout the day as this will give you a sense of fulfillment. However, for others, it may be easier to write goals that they would like to achieve within a certain time frame because when a goal is written down, they would feel more motivated to achieve that goal.

How do you deal with stress and prevent burnouts from your studies?

I usually deal with stress by constantly reminding myself that it is not always possible to stick to my daily routines and by accepting the fact that I won’t be as productive on some days. Sometimes, it’s important to take breaks and to have some quality time to yourself. Additionally, I tell myself very often that an hour of studying every day will get me further than a whole week of studying before my exams. This is something that I’ve definitely learned from the recent internals exams!
