Interview on Math with teacher and senior

Kai Bing

For today’s interview, I have Year 12, Bronson and Ms Cheryl to help answer a few questions about a particular subject that I think most people struggle with: Maths.

Ms Cheryl is a Math teacher in the secondary block who’s been teaching in Tenby for a total of five years. Bronson is a student in Year 12 who’s taking Maths as one of his A-level subjects.

Interview with Ms Cheryl:

How did you become a teacher of this subject?

“The main reason I became a Maths teacher was because I had an amazing teacher when I was in Year 9. This teacher helped to inspire me, and I started to enjoy Maths from there on. I also discovered that I like helping students better understand their lessons, and so I chose to be a Maths teacher.”

That was indeed an inspiring story, may I ask what advice you would give to those who will take Math for IGCSE?

“My advice to those taking their IGCSE is to practice Past Year Questions repeatedly, you’ll eventually be able to figure out the pattern in exam questions, thus improving on answering questions. Also, take note of which topics you're still unsure of and ensure that you ask your teacher about that particular topic so that you will be able to improve on it.”

END OF INTERVIEW

Interview with Bronson:

What comes into your mind when you think about Maths?

“Honestly, I’m a practical person, so I only see Math as a subject that will help me to achieve a better future.”

Interesting way of seeing things, may I ask what you like about Maths?

“I love how Maths is relatable to jobs in the outside world and is an all-in-all well-rounded subject. Not to mention, Maths will also help me to prepare for my future and would be a great aid in the potential future careers that I’m aiming for.”
