Welcome back! How was your winter break? Was it filled with travel, relaxation, adventure, and fun? Well so was mine, just not in the way you’d think. So, to make this article as digestible as possible, let me give you a breakdown of my Holiday in recipe form. Are you ready to bake a cake? Let’s Begin.
Hello my fellow chefs, welcome back to the kitchen… and Welcome to MasterChef, a taste of your holiday. Today I am going to teach you how to make my signature choco-a-holi-day cake. I hope you enjoy reading!
For this recipe you are going to need:
1 1/4 cups of all-purpose Jaishivan
2 cups of fun
3/4 cup of Scholastic Kid Reporter Cocoa
11/2 teaspoon of Chess Tournament powder
1 1/2 teaspoon of baking Harvard Debate soda (OPTIONAL till mid-January)
1 teaspoon of WSD 2022 World Children’s Day
2 Achievement eggs
2 cups of Johor Bahru
½ cup of Safezone
2 teaspoons of TeenEdge Malaysia
1 cup of Secrets and Lies
2 ½ cups of Coca Cola
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour 1 long 3-week holiday with 2 cups of Fun.
Step 2: Mix a ¼ cup of all-purpose Jaishivan with ¾ cup of Scholastic Kid Reporter Cocoa and 1 cup of Secrets and Lies creating the filling in the middle of the cake. This represents my first article which I published as a member of Scholastic Kids Press during the middle of the holiday. It talked about Young Writers in Malaysia Getting a Head Start and was published on 23rd of December 2022. The article was about a prestigious Junior Writers Program (JWP) mentored by Star Ex Editor Ms Brigitte Rozario. I had a wonderful time interviewing Ms Rozario for my article and got to cover the JWP’s latest book launch, a book entitled Secrets and Lies, in December. It was an amazing opportunity to learn journalism from interviewing Ms Brigitte, covering the event, writing the article about it and editing based on my editor’s feedback.

Step 3: Shake ¼ cup of all-purpose Jaishivan with 1 teaspoon of WSD 2022 World Children’s Day and 1 Achievement egg. World Speech Day is an international NGO, and it organized a WSD 2022 World Children’s Day event. The event was hosted by WSD SEA Ambassadors, Cyril Jonas and Victor Ong on 20th December 2022 at YMCA Brickfields, Malaysia. 43 young speakers from 8 different countries participated this year. Speakers from Malaysia, Lebanon, Nigeria, Egypt, Palestine, Bangladesh, Yemen, and Iraq came together to deliver speeches on the theme, “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature”. I was one of the speakers delivering a 10-minute speech on the 101 in Living Sustainably. My speech was also broadcasted on the WSD with CV+ YouTube channel. I also covered the event as a Scholastic Kids Press Reporter interviewing the organizers and fellow speakers from different countries.

Step 4: Take 2 teaspoons of TeenEdge Malaysia, ½ Cup of Safezone and ¼ cup of all-purpose Jaishivan and put in a room temperature environment until liquid in form. Then mix with the previous mixture to create the frosting that’s going on the top of your cake. A window into my computer is what this step is. During the holidays, I came up with the idea to build an app for cyberbullying and presented the idea to Teen Edge Malaysia. I am currently collaborating with them to build an app called SafeZone that will help detect cyberbullying in platforms such as discord which is used by many young people. The first phase of the app was completed in December and in the next two months I will be working on the second phase of the app.
Step 5: Combine ¼ cup of all-purpose Jaishivan, with 1 cup of Johor Bahru and leave to rest for 7 hours. Then knead 1½ teaspoon of Chess Powder and your other Achievement Egg into the dough mixture. This opens a snapshot of when I participated in the 7th International Johor Chess Tournament. The tournament was organized by Fairview International School, Johor, and the Johor Chess Association from the 26th of December to the 31st of December. It attracted participation from GMs, IMs, FMs and 100 plus players from Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Brunei, Maldives, Iran, Vietnam, Thailand, Germany, Australia, Sweden, Uzbekistan, India, China, and Malaysia. I got to spend in Johor Bahru with my family as I participated in the standard tournament and the rapid tournament (with my little brother). I won the best under 1200 rating in the rapid event.
Step 6: Blend your last cup of Johor Bahru with 2½ cups of CocaCola and use it to coat the dough. After my tournament was over, my family and I decided to stay for the new year, going to lovely restaurants, watching the movie Avatar, and going shopping. Also let’s not forget about the amount of Coke that I got to drink.
Step 7: Put the dough in the greased and floured holiday and put in the oven for 30 minutes. Then remove and leave to cool for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Step 8: To prep fill and frost completely, dust with 1/2 teaspoon of baking Harvard Debate soda (OPTIONAL till end-January). This last step reflects the Harvard Debate World Cup I got in too which was postponed to the end of January due to logistic issues.
And with that I present to you my Choco-a-holi-day cake. Next time on Masterchef share with me your Holiday Cake Recipes. Only on Masterchef, a taste of your holiday!
