Based on the prequel of The Hunger Games written by Suzanne Collins, this is a 2023 dystopian (meaning a very oppressive or unfair society) action film directed by Francis Lawrence. The movie takes place 64 years before the events of the first film, and is the fifth installment of the Hunger Games film series.
Featuring Tom Blyth as young Coriolanus Snow, the story starts in the conflicted country of Panem, where the head of the distinguished Snow family, General Crassus Snow, dies in the first rebellion between the Capitol and the Districts.
Many years later, Crassus’s son, the eighteen year old Coriolanus, is chosen as one of the twenty-four Academy students to mentor a tribute in the annual Hunger Games. Determined to restore his family’s fortune, he endeavors to earn the Plinth Prize scholarship.
Released in the United States on the 17th of November, 2023, the film was a box office success, grossing $299.7 million worldwide.
