The Lake

Joey Tan

There was once a lake in the outskirts of a small town, many people went there for different vacations, whether it be dates, honeymoons or just a place for friends and family alike to hang out in.

It was the middle of summer and Hayley and her sister were laying on the couch, sweating from the heat.

“Hey,” said Hayley’s sister as Hayley turned to look at her with a tired expression.

“Wanna go to the lake?” she asked.

Hayley paused before replying with a smirk.

“The one on the outskirts?” she confirmed.

Her sister nodded and the two sisters stared at each other and smiled before getting up and leaving the house in the car. It took a while for them to get there, so naturally they were singing along to songs. Their singing was loud and exciting as the sun shone brightly above them. It took them a couple of hours to reach the large lake and they noticed that the water had lessened. The sisters took their things out of the car and placed them down, underneath a nice, tall tree.  They sat underneath it and set out some food to eat.

They chatted and laughed, it made their summer more enjoyable and bearable as they soon noticed some other people driving over and taking up a big bag of something - it was two people carrying each side of the bag before they threw the bag into the lake. The two girls hid behind the tree and checked what else the people did before a loud scream emerged. Hayley turned around and to her utmost horror, her sister was missing. She then caught sight of a drop of blood laying on the ground, making her panic. She looked around frantically and quickly got into the car, before she noticed the lake had a specific colour as it began to spread… a blood red colour that continued to spread.
