Valentine’s day at Tenby

Sean

Valentine’s day at Tenby has always been a joyous occasion, with students expressing their gratitude and appreciation towards their friends. This year’s valentine’s day celebration was no different.

Students had the option to choose from an array of gifts to give to those who they appreciated. The Year 9 SLT team came up with the ingenious “friendship-day” idea, which involved writing a kind message to someone you appreciate. With the help of the prefects, these messages were printed out onto wonderfully designed cards and distributed to unsuspecting recipients. The first 30 sign-ups received a custom crocheted rose to accompany their letter! With the introduction of the “Buy 5 Cards at the Price of 3” rule, the deal was too good to pass up. Soon we were swamped with sign-ups. All the money collected from this initiative was donated to The National Autism Society of Malaysia, which allowed us to spread some love out of campus as well. Overall, the plan was a success with over 80 cards distributed.

Next up, the student voice and welfare committee organised a creative system where students could order roses or chocolates for a person of their choice. A delivery service was also implemented and it only cost RM1 to have your gift delivered to your special someone. A customizable message was also available for purchase to go along with the flowers or chocolates. The sign-ups came rolling in and people were genuinely captivated by the romantic idea of getting a rose or chocolates for someone they loved and appreciated. It was really heartwarming to see people’s faces light up when they received their gift.

From appreciation cards, to roses and chocolates, Tenbians had a range of gifts to choose from to show their love and appreciation. However, some decided to take a DIY approach. Some students made their own flowers and hearts out of origami paper, which was insanely cute. No matter how small the gift was, I’m certain that it was still able to bring joy and love to its recipient.

All in all, this year’s valentine’s day at Tenby was an astounding success. Students were given the opportunity to express their gratitude to their peers and spread some love around campus. However, we shouldn’t put all our effort into one day just to show someone we love and appreciate them. Instead, appreciation for those we love should be shown everyday.
