This Christmas break, I will be going to the administrative region in China, Hong Kong. And I will be talking about the main difference between Malaysia and Hong Kong.
Hong Kong is a unique administrative region of China that consists of 200 islands on the south coast of China. In the towns of Hong Kong, the streets are busy and are normally packed with people who are rushing to work in huge crowds. It consists of one of the most vibrant cultures, which blends Western and Asian influences. One of the main differences between Malaysia and Hong Kong is the economic systems. The economic system in Hong Kong is more free and open to foreigners compared to Malaysia. Their financial system is more open and advanced compared to our financial system in Malaysia. But another main difference between Malaysia and Hong Kong is the cost of living. Hong Kong has a higher cost of living compared to Malaysia, which is 56.6% cheaper to live in than Hong Kong.
Hong Kong also has more stock of newer foreign products compared to Malaysia. Hong Kong also has the newest fashion trends that Malaysians might not even be aware of.
Another difference is that Malaysia has a lot more islands than Hong Kong, even though Hong Kong already consists of many islands. Hong Kong has 263 islands, yet Malaysia has 615 more islands than Hong Kong, meaning that Malaysia has 878 islands. Hong Kong also has more underground tunnels which connect different places to ease heavy traffic, making it easier to access different areas in Hong Kong without getting stuck in traffic. Even though Hong Kong is a small country, it has a large population in a small area or street. Hong Kong also has a longer average lifespan than Malaysia, meaning that people living in Hong Kong will, on average, live longer than those living in Malaysia. Although Malaysia and Hong Kong don't experience snow, their weather can still vary drastically. When it’s summer in Hong Kong, it gets hotter than in Malaysia, but when it’s winter in Hong Kong, it gets colder than in Malaysia.
Malaysia also has more cultures than Hong Kong - Malaysia has three main cultures, while Hong Kong only has one.
Hong Kong also has a lot of theme parks that we don’t have, or have theme parks that are more interesting than those in Malaysia. One of the most famous children's theme parks originated in America, Disneyland, can be found in Hong Kong, whereas there is none in Malaysia. Despite Hong Kong being a small country, they have one of the most famous theme parks in the world. As Malaysians, we need to travel to other countries to visit these theme parks.
In Malaysia, many people listen to famous Chinese songs or watch famous Chinese movies from around the world. In Hong Kong, there are many all-star, famous actors and singers that people around the world know. An example of these famous actors is Jackie Chan. They also have famous songs like “朋友”, which means “friend” in English.
