The day I have been waiting for is finally here: Sports Day!! I was so excited that the moment I woke up I tumbled down my bed by accident. Sports Day means no lessons and the best part of it is to participate in your events, earn medals and cheer your friends on. This year, I only participated in two events which were 800m and the relay. The moment I arrived at the stadium, it was around 7:00 am. I did a lap around the stadium to warm myself up because in just an hour, my 800m race was starting.
After waiting for an hour, my 800m event was finally starting. I expected to win a medal because I did get second place for 800m last year as well. But when I went to the field to check the attendants for the runners who would be running in the event, I immediately felt my confidence slipping away. Standing in front of me were some of the best runners as my opponents. I thought that since I got second place last year, this year would be easy as well. But clearly I was a bit too overconfident. We took our spots at the line to start the race, my heart was pounding from excitement as nervousness as well. Now seeing all the amazing runners I have to run against, I wasn’t expecting to get anything. But surprisingly, I was second place again! Well, even though I was aiming for first place, I was still very surprised that I managed to outrun the runners I was running against.
After receiving my medal, I went back to my seat on top of the bleachers. Still feeling proud of myself, I decided to spend the rest of the day cheering my friends on before my event at 1:00 pm, which was the relay. When it was time for the relay, my team didn’t manage to win us a medal. Even though we didn’t win anything for the relay, I was still proud of myself for what I have accomplished today. For next year’s sports day, I am planning to join most of the running events such as 1500m, 800m again and probably 400m as well. That is all I have to say for my sports day this year, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!
